What does powerful communication mean to you?

Think BIG Business Huddle at Soho Farmhouse, and I have to say I loved every single minute of it. The theme was powerful communication, and we took people on a journey of their own communication style. This was not about forcing people to show up in ways that did not work for them; it was about leading them to greater awareness of their communication style and the beliefs that shaped it.

I am aware that not everyone can make the Huddles, so I wanted to share some questions here to help you take a self-guided tour of your communication style. You know where I am if you decide it is time to get some one-to-one support. It is life-transforming!

Grab a pencil and paper, make a cup of something nice, and wander through these at whatever pace suits you...

Let's get you thinking...

Q. What colour and shape is your communication at its best? And at its worst?

Q. Where do you feel most confident as a communicator?

Q. And where does it feel harder than you would like?

Score yourself out of ten on each of these. Ten is fully confident; one is not at all.

  • Public speaking

  • Speaking in meetings

  • Showing up online or on video

  • Social media presence

  • Pitching your ideas

  • Having difficult conversations

  • Setting boundaries clearly

  • Walking into a room

  • Written communication

Take your lowest score...

Q. How does that score feel when you say it out loud?

Q. Do you genuinely want to change this, or feel you should?

Q. What would move you up two points?

Q. If you were a ten, what would become possible for you?

Q. What belief is sitting underneath that score?

And because it should not all be serious

Q. If your communication style was a movie star, who would it be?

Q. How would you mime your elevator pitch?

Before you put the pencil down!

Q. What one action will you do this week to help you become a more powerful communicator? By all means, hit reply and let me know.
